چکیده

Henney, H. (The University of Texas, Austin) and R. Storck. Nucleotide composition of ribonucleic acid from Neurospora crassa. J. Bacteriol. 85:822-826. 1963.-The nucleotide composition of total, ribosomal, and soluble ribonucleic acid (RNA) from the conidia and the hyphae of Neurospora crassa was determined. The corresponding RNA classes from the two morphological types had the same base ratio. Total, ribosomal, and soluble RNA from hyphae contained, respectively, 51.0, 50.2, and 61.6% guanylic acid (G) plus cytidylic acid (C), and from conidia, 50.6, 49.9, and 62.1%. The proportion of nucleotides in ribosomal RNA was in close agreement with that reported for ribosomal RNA from other organisms. Soluble RNA contained 2.8% pseudouridylic acid, 36.0% C, and 25.5% G, and differed from soluble RNA from other sources in its high C content. Centrifugation of purified RNA from conidia and hyphae, through a linear sucrose-density gradient, yielded identical sedimentation profiles.

Interactions of Phenylalanyl Transfer Ribonucleic Acid Synthetase of Neurospora crassa with Valyl Transfer Ribonucleic Acid of Escherichia co&*

Since Phe-tRNA synthetase of Neurospora crassa reacts with tRNAV”’ of Escherichia coli to produce Phe-tRNAV&‘, the parameters that effect the reverse reaction were examined. Similarly, the interaction of Val-tRNA synthetase (E. coti) with Phe-tRNAVal and Val-tRNAVal (E. coli) was studied. Phe-tRNA synthetase (N. crassa) can catalyze the deacylation of both Phe-tRNAVa 1 (E. coli) and Val-tRNAV”’...

Polysomes, ribonucleic acid, and protein synthesis during germination of Neurospora crassa conidia.

The level of polysomes in ungerminated conidia of Neurospora crassa depends on the method used to collect spores. Spores harvested and exposed to hydration contain 30% of their ribosomes as polysomes, whereas those not exposed to hydration contain only 3% of their ribosomes as polysomes. During the germination process, the percentage of the ribosomes which sediment as polysomes increases rapidl...

Germination of Neurospora crassal

Transfer ribonucleic acid (tRNA) methylases were studied during the germination of spores in Neurospora crassa. The total methylase capacity and base specific tRNA methylase activities were determined in extracts from cells harvested at various stages of germination. Germinated conidia have a 65% higher methylase capacity than ungerminated conidia. Three predominant methylase activities were fo...
